Can satellite networks stay connected when things go wrong?
Resilient architectures for LEO mega-constellations
TU Delft, Netherlands · 36 months
Thousands of satellites are being launched into low Earth orbit, forming networks that could provide connectivity almost anywhere on Earth. But what happens when satellites fail or communication links suddenly disappear? Can the network reorganise itself, or could a few failures disrupt an entire constellation?
In this PhD, you'll explore how large satellite networks can be designed to withstand failures and adapt to changing conditions. You'll investigate how satellites connect, how disruptions affect the network, and how alternative connections can help keep communication running. The research will involve modelling and simulation, with opportunities to work alongside our partners at Lasting Software and Qascom.
